He was 25 and the son of Andrew and Elizabeth Lauchland, of Karilpa St., Brisbane, Queensland.

At the time of the 1901 census, Robert was 8 years old and living at 10 Binfield Road, Norton, Derbyshire.

At the time of the 1911 census, Robert was employed as a currier and was living with his mother and siblings.
