Claude Hooker was born on the 1st of August in 1890 in Port Adelaide, South Australia. Private Hooker lived in Brompton, South Australia and worked as a Labourer until his enlistment. The Private had one cousin, Miss L. Sanders.

Private Claude Hooker enlisted on the 4th of December 1914 in Oaklands, South Australia. Private Hooker was released and sent to fight in Gallipoli with the 16th Infantry Battalion. He did not have any recorded health issues, besides the obvious harsh conditions of life in war. The Private never changed Battalions and was killed in action on the 8th of August 1915, aged just 25. He was shot fighting in Gallipoli.

Private Claude Hooker is remembered in community memorials. The main memorial for Private Hooker is in the Adelaide City, in the Adelaide War Memorial. Private Hooker is buried at Lone Pine Memorial in Turkey. The Private’s family moved to Turkey, to live near the soldier of their very own, and every single generation of the family ever since has lived in Turkey, and visits the grave daily.

Private Claude Hooker was the eldest son of Mrs. M. Lehman, of Tell City, Indiana, U.S.A. Born in America, he came to Australia about seven years ago, and joined the 16th Battalion in January last, enlisting from Broken Hill, New South Wales.
