Edward Walter MOFFLIN was born on 25th August, 1888 in North Adelaide, South Australia

His parents were Horace MOFFLIN and Margaret SUTHERLAND who had married in New Zealand in 1866 - all their children were born in New Zealand except for Edward was the only child born in South Australia

He had previous served for 4 years with the 4th Battalion, 7th Royal Fusiliers when he enlisted in Helena Vale in Western Australia on 8th September 1914

He was with the 11th Battalion, D Company and embarked from Fremantle, WA on board HMAT Ascanius on 31st October, 1914 - the ship then anchored off shore for 2 days where it finally left on 2nd November, 1914

Edward died of Wounds on 7th July, 1916 at the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station & is buried in the Estaires Communal Cemetery & also memorialized on the Australian War Memorial.     He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal &  Victory Medal

His brother Percy Sutherland MOFFLIN (SN 227) was Killed in Action on 16th June, 1915, another brother William Harold MOFFLIN (SN507) returned to Australia in 1915
