Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

William’s older brother, 305 Pte. James Seeley 7th Battalion AIF, was killed in action at Gallipoli on 6 July 1915, aged 20.

William served on Gallipoli with the 8th Battalion and transferred to the 58th Battalion during the doubling of the AIF in early 1916.

He was wounded in action a few days before the Fromelles battle when his battalion’s front-line trenches were heavily shelled and raided. William was killed in action near Morchies in France during an advance by the 58th Battalion.

Two uncles, Albert and Arthur Seeley, from Essendon, Victoria, also died on the Western Front during 1917 and 1918.
