Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
The son of Frank and the late Catherine Miller, of Bimbi Hotel, Bimbi, New South Wales. It seems Frederick’s mother died when he was only one year of age, and he was raised by his grandmother.
Frederick Miller was working a clerk in one of Grenfell’s largest shops, Hill’s and Hall, when he enlisted in 1916.
He joined the 20th Battalion in France on 25 June 1917 and was severely wounded just under three months later, in the Battle of Menin Road Ridge, Belgium, on 20 September 1917.
Frederick was taken to the 26th General Hospital in Rouen, France, via several casualty dressing stations. He had a shrapnel wound which caused a compound fracture of his upper arm. Three operations were performed in the hospital on the 1st, 17th, and 31st October 1917, but Frederick’s condition worsened, and he died in the hospital shortly after the last operation.
Frederick had just turned 21 years of age and he left a will in favour of his grandmother.
