"...2079 Private Francis Duke Martin, 3rd Reinforcements, 29th Battalion, of Melbourne, Vic (originally of Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England). Pte Martin enlisted on 6 July 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Ballarat on 18 February 1916. On 7 February 1917 he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. He was wounded in action on 9 March 1917 and promoted to the rank of Sergeant on 9 April 1917. On 26 September 1917 Sergeant Martin was killed in action at Polygon Wood in the Menin Road area of Belgium." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
