Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Frederick noted on enlisting that his parents were deceased and his next of kin was his sister, Alice Nash.

He was killed in action during the advance on Polygon Wood in Belgium. His mates stated he climbed on top of a pillbox to fire his Lewis gun at the enemy and was eventually fatally hit by a sniper.

He was buried near where he fell but his remains were lost. His sister noted on his roll of honour form that he had a stepbrother also killed, 731 Private Albert Roach 43rd Battalion AIF, who lost had his life some three months before at Messines, Belgium.
