Son of Charles Ottaway and Jessie Ottaway nee Weir of Ballarat, Victoria.
Husband of Jemima Ottaway nee Trail C/- J. Simpson, Moorngag, Victoria. Herbert and Jemima married during 1909 in Victoria.
Commenced return to Australia on 15 November 1918 aboard HT Port Darwin disembarking on 24 December 1918.
