Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
His younger brother, 105 Lce. Cpl. Geoffry Ransom Irvine 3rd Field Company Engineers was killed in action at Gallipoli 31 July 1915, aged 21.
Later in the war Claude was awarded a Military Medal when, ‘at Westhoek in Belgium, on 3 October 1917, he showed gallantry and devotion to duty in repairing telephone lines cut by shell fire. On this occasion he started with another man (although he was told he could rest if he liked) to repair the line under heavy shell fire. He was wounded during the work.’
Claude returned to Australia 4 July 1919.
