Arthur was the second of eight children of William Arthur Maller (b1869 in Wallumbilla, QLD) and Martha Gardner (b1869 in Ipswich, QLD). William and Martha married in 1891 in Ipswich, QLD where they lived until moving to Woogaroo Creek in Redcliffe in 1900 - where  William was a Farmer. By 1907 the family had moved to Pickanjinnie near Roma, QLD where William was a Farmer.

Arthur was a Selector at Boreview Farm, Pickanjinnie near Roma qLD when he enlisted in the AIF in 1916 - he had previously served three years with the Militia (3rd Light Horse Regiment). Arthur was a Private (Service No:7019) with 23/9th Infantry Battalion and 4th Infantry Battalion. He was WiA in France (GSW) in April 1918 and was Discharged in October 1919. Brother Richard Norman (Service No:7018) also served in WWI and son Glenas Arthur (Service No: 77923) and brother Wilson (Service No:Q228647) served in WWII.

Arthur returned to Boreview Farm in Pickanjinnie and in 1923 married Mary Dominica Bertolotti (b1902 in Wallumbilla, QLD). Arthur and Mary moved to Nambour, QLD in 1925, where Arthur worked as a Wood Merchant. The family had returned to Roma by 1930 and Arthur was a Farmer at Wallumbilla, where Mary died in 1975. Arthur died in 1980.
