Alfred Charles CROXON 3274 45th Battn, 12th Aust Field Artillery.

He was born 23/2/1892 at Stratford, West Ham, Essex,  East End London, England.

He immigrated to Australia and between 1914-1915 and  is listed as a labourer at Vite Vite, near Derrinallum.

30/7/16 He was detached to the 4th Australian Divisional Ammunition Column instructing.

8/8/16 rejoined unit and was promoted on 23/8/16 to Corporal/ Bombardier .

He went on leave to England 1/10/17 and rejoined the unit on 14/10/17.

Sadly he was killed in action 19/10/17, Reninhelst, Ypres, Belgium. He was 27 yrs and buried at

Reninghelst New Military Cemetery (Plot IV, Row C, Grave No. 14), Belgium.

Reninghelst New Military Cemetery is located 9.5 Kms south west of Ieper (formerly Ypres) town centre, in the village of Reningelst (formerly Reninghelst).

In addition a welcome home to returned soldiers was held at Vite Vite,  Oct 1919 and gold medals were

presented to those who returned. Mrs. C. Williams was the recipient of a handsome gold brooch, of boomerang design, in memory of her son (Frank) who made the supreme sacrifice, and for which she expresses her thanks to the residents of the district. It is also the intention of the committee to purchase a brooch of similar design and forward it to Mrs. Croxon, mother of the late Corporal A. Croxon

CROXON.- In loving memory of our dear friend, Cpl. A. C. Croxon, and beloved mate of Jack (O.A.S.), who was killed by a passing aeroplane shell at Passchendaele Ridge, on  October 19, 1917.
