Commenced return to Australia on 5 January 1920 aboard SS Cape Vede disembarking on the 22 February 1920

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal

On 15 March 1922 James married Ruby Ann Alley Braley in St Paul's Church, Adelaide, SA. The following year Ruby applied for legal separation which was dismissed. Father of Ernest Sammons and Robert James Sammons

At the time of his death he was residing at Mile End, SA
