Thomas Stein (Service No 7075), was born in Kiama, N.S.W., and went to live in Tasmania, with his family, at a young age.
At enlistment, he was single, 22 years old, worked as a hairdresser and lived in Queenstown, Tasmania.
Thomas embarked from Melbourne, on HMAT A34 Persic, with 12th Battalion, 23rd Reinforcement, on 22nd December 1916. He arrived in England on 3rd March 1917, and joined 12th Battalion in Belgium, on 16th October 1917. Thomas was wounded in action on 30th October 1917. He was treated for a gun shot wound to his right hand, returning to his unit on 11th April 1918.
On 18th September 1918, Thomas was wounded a second time, whilst fighting at Peronne, France. He was evacuated to 12th Casualty Clearing Station, for treatment of a penetrating gun shot wound to his abdomen. Thomas died from his wounds on 19th September 1918.
Thomas is buried in Peronne, France, at La Chapelette British Cemetery, Plot III, Row D, Grave 12.
Thomas' brother, Alfred James Stein (Service No 1247), also served.
