Rupert MACONOCHIE was born in Sunbury in 1892 and was living in Dandenong when he enlisted on 21/10/1914.
He left Australia on 2/2/1915 aboard the HMAT Chilka as part of the 3rd Light Horse Brigade Train and served on Gallipoli from 13/11/1915 until 20/12/1915.
He was transferred to the 46th Battalion on 31/3/1916 in Egypt and sailed to France with this Battalion.
He was wounded in action on 5/8/1916 at Pozieres with a gsw to the groin. He was shipped to the UK and spent time in the 1st Southern General Hospital in Dudley, UK.
After recovery and time in a training group in the UK, he rejoined the 46th Battalion on 15/5/1917.
He continued his service with this battalion until the end of the war. He had leave in the UK and at the conclusion of the war married Elizabeth Wright in London on 14/1/1919.
Rupert returned to Australia on 30/4/1919 and was discharged on 29/6/1919.
Rupert died on 25th April 1954 at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and was buried at the Fawkner Cemetery.
In 1957 his widow, Elizabeth was living at Flat 4, 600 St Kilda Road Melbourne.
