Biography

"LANCE-CORPORAL HALLIDAY.

Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Halliday, of Johnston-street, Boulder City, Western Australia, received the sad news that their son, Lance-Corporal George J. Halliday, was kilied in action on September 3. He enlisted in June, 1915. and sailed for Egypt on September 2 of the same year; from there he went to Gallipoli. Afterwards he served on the Suez Canal until June, 1916, and thence he went to France, where he made the supreme sacrifice. Lance-Corporal Halliday spent practically the whole of his life in Orroroo, leaving there at the age of 19 years to proceed to Western Australia with his parents. While in Orroroo he was in the employ of Mr, Samuel Carter, general storekeeper, as grocer's assistant, which occupation he followed in Boulder. He passed his 24th birthday twelve days before his death." - from the Adelaide Chronicle Dec 1916 (nla.gov.au)
