Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private Edward Dodds (Service No:2926A/2927) enlisted in the AIF on 7 July 1915 and was attached to 11th Infantry Battalion 9th Reinforcements when he embarked from Fremantle on board HMAT Honorata on 5 October 1915. Private Dodds transferred to 51st Infantry battalion in January 1916 and served in France - where he was WiA on two occasions in 1916, and hospitalised with Trench Fever. Private Dodds embarked from Devonport bound for Albany WA on 28 February 1919 on board HT Anchises and was Discharged in Perth on 3 June 1919.

Born in 1895 at Utakarra via Geraldton WA, Ted was the youngest of four children of James Dodds (b1866 in Cumberland, England) and Jean (Jane) Young Collins (b1872 in Dumfries-shire, Scotland). James (a Railways Worker) and Jane married in 1891 in Perth WA and settled in the Geraldton region where James worked with the Railways - Guard, Fettling Ganger, Construction Ganger and Length Runner.

Ted was a Barber in Geraldton WA when he enlisted in the AIF and following his Discharge in 1919, he boarded in Perth before 'going to the country to look for work'. By the mid 1920s Ted had moved to Melbourne where he worked as a Lineman and then Hairdresser. In 1931 in Melbourne, Ted married Ione Margaret Puckey (nee Roberts; b1897 in Mordialloc, Victoria). Ted and Ione settled in Melbourne where Ted worked as a Hairdresser until 1941 when he became a Munitions Worker - employment he held until retirement in the early 1960s. Following Ione's death in 1972, Ted moved to Port Macquarrie, NSW where he died in 1988 and his ashes were interred at Springvale Cemetery in Victoria with those of Ione.
