Son of Hugh and Margaret Munro, of Crameri Lane, Millchester, Charters Towers, Queensland
"...757 Private John Thomas Munro, 15th Battalion from Charters Towers, Queensland who had previously served in the Boer War. A 34 year old labourer prior to enlisting in the AIF on 6 November 1914, he embarked for overseas with E Company from Melbourne on 22 December 1914 aboard HMAT Ceramic. While serving at Gallipoli, he was wounded in action on 16 May 1915 and rejoined his unit a week later. He was wounded again on 8 August and was later transferred to Cairo and then to hospital in England. In May 1916, he returned to Egypt and served for a short time in the Camel Corps however, he was once again in hospital in Egypt and then in England with recurring pain from his previous wounds. Pte Munro rejoined the 15th Battalion in France on 13 February 1917 and was killed in action at Bullecourt on 11 April 1917. He is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
