16 Aug 1918: Wounded AIF WW1, Corporal, 2627, 4th Divisional Signal Company, Wound to the left forearm. Invalided to England on 1 September 1918
16 Aug 1918: Honoured Military Medal, For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at Morourt on the 5th August 1918. He laid and maintained telephone lines when communication was most important in an advance. He had charge of a cable detachment and cane under direct machine gum and rifle fire from a flank. He nevertheless persisted in his efforts, completed the line and returned under similar fire to re-lay portion which had been destroyed by shell fire behind him. He remained for hours continuously under heavy shelling by day and bombing by night, setting a splendid example to those under him. Commonwealth Gazette 61 on 23 May 1919
