From Steve Smith, Tasmania – The Great War 1914-1918
Remembering an unmet Grandfather today (25/4/2020), Harold Ernest Edmund (Ted) SMITH, 52nd Battalion, S/N 4582-- shot for the third time at the battle of Villers Bretonneux. The injury turned septic and resulted in his left leg being amputated below the knee. While he was recovering he met my future Grandmother (also unmet) Gladys, who was a nurse at his hospital. They married after the war.
