John James WESTBURY was born in 1883 to James WESTBURY and Ellen BAKER (1850-22.01.1911).
John James WESTBURY originally joined the AIF as James WESTBURY (no John) on 22.09.1914 and was allocated service number 619. He was attached to the 3rd Light-horse however he was discharged 3 months later on 29.12.1914 when he refused to be inoculated.
He re-enlisted in the AIF on 11.04.16 at the age of 31 years and was given service number 2206. He was attached to the 5th Pioneer Battalion. He embarked for overseas service on 13.07.1916 arriving in England the transferred to France.
On 28.09.1917 he was wounded in action from mustard gas. He was evacuated to England and admitted to a military hospital at Beaumont.
He was then transferred to the Pioneer Training Battalion. He was readmitted to hospital with abrasions to his knee.
He returned to France and re-joined the 5th Pioneer Battalion on 14.03.1918.
Onn 21.07.1918, he was again wounded in action and admitted to military hospital with shrapnel wounds to his buttock and back.
He returned to Australia on 15.07.1919 and was discharged from the AIF on 29.08.1919.
He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
John James WESTBURY died at Mt Gambier on 28.08.1925 at the age of 37. His death certificate has him as single at the time of his death.
