Son of Henry Hogg and Mary Caroline Hogg nee Offe of Unley Road, Unley, SA

While living and working at Wallaroo he was hospitalised between 29 January 1908 and 11 April 1908 after he suffered an injury to his right leg caused when it was crushed by a locomotive.

Commenced return to Australia on 30 April 1919 aboard HT Karagola disembarking on 9 June 1919

On 15 November 1932 William married Mary Jean Brechin in the Presbyterian Manse, Goodwood, SA
