Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Clive Stanley Hamilton was the son of Charles John and Harriet Josephine Hamilton, of Garah, New South Wales. He had been born and raised in Moree, New South Wales.

His younger brother, 783 Pte Herbert Percival Hamilton 1st Light Horse Regiment was killed in action at Gallipoli, 7 August 1915. Another brother, 1127 Pte Charles Leslie Hamilton M.M., also of the 1st Light Horse Regiment, returned to Australia in 1919.

Clive Stanley Hamilton was employed as an engineer at Clyde Engineering Works in Sydney when he enlisted. He was a member of the Clyde Works Rifle Club and had won a gold medal in connection with the club some time ago.

He participated in the Gallipoli campaign before being taken to Malta Hospital due to “teeth and tonsillitis” from 17 July 1915. He transferred to newly raised 45th Battalion during early 1916. The 45th Battalion served in its first major battle at Pozieres in August 1916, and Hamilton suffered a gunshot wound to his scalp on the 8 August 1916, for which he was transferred to the 4 General Hospital in Camiers, France for 11 days. In unknown circumstances he was reported as killed in action “in the field” in Belgium on 6 October 1916, aged 23. The unit was behind the lines at the time. He is buried in the Ridge Wood Military Cemetery, Belgium.
