Biography contributed by Paul Trevor

'MAN PINNED UNDER WATER BY TRUCK WHEEL.

GYMPIE, February 17. - Pinned face-down under the rear wheel of a utility truck in 2 ft of water at Ora Vale, Charles Edward Godwin, 56, single, labourer, was drowned.

Godwin, who was a passenger in a truck being driven from town by Kevin Rodney, farmer, alighted to push the truck out of a creek crossing.

The vehicle slipped sideways and Godwin was pinned by the right arm under the water. Rodney's efforts to extricate him failed. Police and civilians lifted the vehicle several hours afterwards.' from Morning Bulletin 18 Feb 1947 (nla.gov.au)
