William Scott Jardine was born in Scotland, 1875, to Robert and Jemima.

He was employed as Deputy Overman prior to the war.

William and his wife, Catherine (nee Loader) lived on McMillan Street Helensburgh with their four children: Cecil, Elizabeth, William and Myra.

William enlisted on 5 April 1916 at the age of 41. He joined the 13th Battalion, 20th Reinforcements a regiment which he shared with David John Morgans, another Illawarra resident. He embarked from Sydney on 9 September 1916 aboard HMAT Euripides A14.

His time at the front saw him wounded in action to the neck and shoulder as well as being taken as a prisoner of war by the German army. He was officially reported missing in action on 13 April 1917 and by December he was listed as a prisoner of war.

He was released and returned to Australia on 9 February 1919. William received the British War and Victory medals for his service.

William Scott Jardine died on 29 May 1936.

The purpose of the project was to acknowledge the contributions of Illawarra residents in various wars, conflicts and peacekeeping missions from the Boer War to the present day.
