24 Sep 1918: Honoured Military Cross, For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when an enemy destructive shoot opened on his gun position. One of his guns received a direct hit, and the camouflage and communication of an adjoining pit was set on fire. He rushed into the pit, and, by throwing earth on the blazing camouflage and exploding ammunition, extinguished the fire and saved the bulk of the ammunition.
