Memorialised at Sandgate Cemetery.
On the 2nd May 1915, Private Frederick John Brown, 2nd Battalion (Reg No-1655), labourer from "Kia-Ora", 44 Corlette Street, Cooks Hill, New South Wales, was Killed in Action during the Gallipoli Campaign, age 39, not 42. Place and cause of death unknown.
Born at Cooks Hill, New South Wales on the 23rd July 1875 to Samuel (died 4.9.1926, age 87, Newcastle, N.S.W.) and Carrie Bridget Charters Brown nee Pead (mother of six or eight, died 2.8.1905, as Bridget, age 56, Newcastle, N.S.W.), Frederick enlisted on the 26th November 1914, Reg No-1654, at Liverpool, N.S.W.
Reported missing 2.5.1915.
Pronounced KIA 24.3.1916.
Frederick’s name has been inscribed on the Lone Pine Memorial (Panel 17), Gallipoli, Turkey.
Mr. Brown’s name has also been inscribed on the Cooks Hill St. John's Anglican Church Honor Roll (photo, unveiled on the 12th February 1922, 86 names inscribed, 24 Fallen, located at 1B Parry Street, Cooks Hill, N.S.W.), Gardner Memorial, Cooks Hill Superior Public School Roll of Honour Board 1, Book of Gold and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.
