Son of Roderick and Jessie Forbes of Fairburn, Mur of Ord, Ross-shire, Scotland

Served a 5 year apprenticeship with Patterson & Bearly Hardware

His brother, Private Duncan Forbes[MiD], Service Number 1003, aged 23 fell in action only weeks later on 25th May 1915 in the same theatre of war and rests in Shrapnel Valley Cemetery in Grave III. D. 31.

He is one of four Australian soldiers of the Great War remembered on the Muir of Ord War Memorial-his brother Duncan being one of them.
