Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Pat was the eldest of eight children of John Joseph Oliver (born 1870 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Ellen Josephine O'Donnell (born 1869 in Morayfirld, QLD). John was Baker at Rosewood on the Darling Downs, QLD in 1891 when he married Ellen. John and Ellen settled at Rosewood until moving to Nanango, Wide Bay in QLD in the early 1900s where John was a Farmer, until relocating to Brisbane by 1918.

Pat worked as a Labourer at Rosewood on the Darling Downs and Nambour, and was in Brisbane, QLD in November 1915 when he enlisted in the AIF. Pat listed his NoK as Sarah Ellen (Nellie) Gray (nee Edwards, born 1889 in Lancashire, England) and identified Nellie as his wife on his Attestation Papers - he alsoe spelled his surname as 'Olliver'. Nellie was still married at the time, and Pat's family refused to acknowledge her as his NoK, writing to the Army that 'he has no wife and children' and requesting to be identified as Pat's NoK. The Army responded that Nellie was 'the unmarried wife of this soldier'. Pat served as a Private, Corporal and Sergeant (Service No:6) with the 14th Light Horse Regiment A Squadron, 2nd Light Horse Regiment 2nd Division Cavalry and was WiA in France in 1918 (Gas Poisoning). Pat was Discharged in 1919.

Pat and Nellie married in Tully, QLD in 1923 and lived in Wondai, Gympie and Brisbane where Pat was a Fruiterer, Share Farmer, Dairy Farmer and Labourer. Nellie died in 1960 and Pat died in 1975.
