MOODIE Charles George Gordon MB BS (Melb)
1885-1927
Charles George Gordon Moodie was born on 24th February 1885 in Portland, Victoria. He was the second youngest of the 12 children of William Moodie (1830-1914) from Scotland and Elizabeth Ann, nee Owens from Wales. He graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1913. He was registered with the Medical Board of South Australia in 1915 with his address given as Nailsworth.
Moodie enlisted in Adelaide on 1st September 1914. He was single and he had previously 16 months with AAMC with the rank of captain. He gave his address as Main North Road, Medindie, South Australia. His next of kin was his mother whose address was Coleraine, Victoria. He was 5ft 10ins tall, weighed 159lbs. He was posted to 3 FdAmb but was transferred to 2 AGH. He departed Australia on the Port Lincoln on 21st October 1914. A Medical Board conducted on 6th February 1915 declared him unfit for duty for not more than three months in Egypt. He returned to Australia on 3rd March 1915 on the Ulysses. He was posted to Gallipoli on 26th August 1915. He was ill from 30th October to 7th November 1915 and was evacuated to Malta and later Gibraltar. He was sent to England to 3rd London General Hospital on 14th December 1915. He was promoted to major on 1st January 1916 and on 14th February he was posted to the 5 FdAmb. He was again in hospital from 23rd September to 2nd October 1917. He was posted to the Australian Division Base Depot on 1st May 1916 and transferred to England to 1st Division Base Depot on 2nd February 1917. After working in the Training Depot he returned to France and to 1 AGH on 18th May1917. After further appointments back in England he returned to the 2 AGH in France on 1st September 1918. He returned to England before leaving for Australia on 2nd Jan 1919 on the Karmala, disembarking in Fremantle before returning to Adelaide on Morvada. His appointment was terminated on 6th May 1919. He was issued with the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
Moodie married Diane Wells on 20th January 1923 but they were divorced in 1926. Charles George Gordon Moodie died in 2nd June 1927 in Darlinghurst, New South Wales from an accidental overdose of morphine.
