Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Eric Carr was the son of William Picken Carr and Kate Carr, of "Dysant," Geelong, Victoria. He enlisted as a Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion and was transferred to the 59th Battalion during the reorganisation of the AIF in Egypt during early 1916.

Eric was apparently a bombing officer in the 59th Battalion during their attack at Fromelles. He has 16 pages in his Red Cross Wounded and Missing file with most witnesses agreeing that they saw him hit in the head by rifle fire close to the German trenches. His remains were never found.

His brother, 561 Pte Reginald Ivan Cooper Carr, 8th Light Horse Regiment, was killed in action at Gallipoli on 19 June 1915.

The following article appeared in the Melbourne Winner newspaper November 1916, under the heading, GEELONG ATHLETE KILLED. ‘Deep sympathy is felt for the Carr family, of Geelong, who have now lost a second son, Eric, killed in action. His brothers, W. S. and. V. H., are members of the Geelong Club's tennis team, while, he was successful at all games. At the Geelong Grammar School he succeeded his brother Reg as swimming champion, holding that honor for four years, and being followed by his brothers Victor and Cyril, a remarkable family record!’
