This NCO has commanded a sub-section capably and fearlessly. When the enemy was advancing near Robecq on 12 April 1918 it was due to his coolness and initiative that gun limbers were taken without orders to the battery position and guns got away safely. | |
12 Mar 1919: | Honoured Distinguished Conduct Medal, "The Last Hundred Days", On the morning of 17 October, 1918 near Saint Souplet on the River Selle, when the enemy were preparing for counter attacks, and his battalion was being heavily shelled, he re-arranged gun crews, and, by his personal gallantry and energy, managed to maintain four guns in action. Again, on the morning of the 18th he, with one gunner, kept his gun in action until the end of the operation. Throughout, he showed great coolness and devotion to duty. | |
