Adam Gradstone WARDROP was born on 22nd November, 1886 in Watsonville, Queensland

His parents were Henry Chatto WARDROP and Mary Frances BYRNE

He married Wilhelmina Amelia (Minnie) SCHAEFER in 1916 in Queensland

Adam enlisted on 13th March, 1916 in Rockhampton and embarked with the 9th Field Artillery Brigade, 4th reinforcements from Sydney on the HMAT Aeneas on the 30th September, 1916

He was wounded in action on 21st September, 1917 from gas shell poisoning & admitted to Hospital on 27th September & was also at Queen Mary Hospital in England on 14th October, 1917 - his health slowly deteriorated from then on with multiple illnesses and on 31st March, 1919 he left Southampton, UK on the ship Wandilla to return to Australia as he was invalided home due to illness

Adam died at sea on 8th May, 1919 and was buried at sea the same day - his death was caused by chronic nephritis & uraemia 

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial, the Australian National Memorial at Villers Bretonneux & the Mackay Town Hall Honour Board in Queensland - he was awarded the British War Medal & the Victory Medal
