103 years ago today, on the 13th April 1918, Private Leslie John French, 4th Battalion (Reg No-7237), barber & hairdresser from "Kiaora", Melville Street, The Junction, Newcastle, New South Wales, was Killed in Action in France by an artillery shell, age 22 years 7 months.

Born at Newcastle, N.S.W. on the 10th September 1895 to John (died 1918) and Sophia (died 1931) Leslie French, enlisted February 1917 at Sydney, N.S.W.

Leslie is resting at Outtersteene Communal Cemetery Extension, Bailleul, France. Plot II Row A Grave 71.
Mr French’s name has been inscribed on The Junction Soldiers' Monument and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall. Name not inscribed on the Cooks Hill Superior Public School Roll of Honour.

Leslie has been memorialised at his parent’s gravesite at Sandgate Cemetery, and I have placed poppies in remembrance of their son’s supreme sacrifice for God, King and Country. CATHOLIC 1-10. 49.
