BIRKS, Edward, Harold 

Edward Harold Birks was born in Alberton, South Australia.

Edward Harold Birks died on October 10, 1959, in Eastwood, South Australia, and was buried at North Road Cemetery in Nailsworth, SA. He served as a Sergeant during World War I.

In 1918, his brother, John Francis Birks, contacted the South Australian Red Cross to inquire about Edward's well-being during the war. Edward survived the war and is remembered by his family for his service and sacrifices for his country.

His career started when he joined the 2nd Depot Battalion and then joined the 43rd Infantry Battalion, part of South Australia's contribution to the 3rd Division of the AIF. He left Adelaide on June 9, 1916, aboard the HMAT Afric (A19). Birks was later promoted to Sergeant.
