my Dads Dad was James Lewis Brother, James Lewis came out from England by ship in 1909. He took up new land 1700 acres 42 miles north east of Wickepin, where the railway line ended then.  Eventually Kulin town was built the farm was 10 miles West of the new town Kulin. 1910 saw his younger brother Gordon join him, coming on ship called "Medic" Albany port. They chopped trees with axes & burnt scrub etc to clear the new land together and finally a crop was planted At this time 1912 they had to cart the wheat to Wickepin 42 miles away, so they took the first load of bagged wheat in on the wagon pulled by a team of horses, a long slow journey of one and a half days. A few years later 1914 they took there wheat to Jitarning, the new siding, much closer to farm ( 11 miles ) James signed up for war in the July of 1915
