Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

John Turnbull was a young Englishman who came out to Australia from Lancashire at the age of 19, during 1913. He was working as a farm labourer at Duck Creek, Temora, NSW. The area of Duck Creek is now known as Trungley Hall.

John Turnbull was the son of James and Alice Turnbull, of Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, England. John's mother, Alice, filled out his roll of honour circular and stated John had a brother, Sergeant Thomas Braithwaite, of the 42nd Battalion AIF, who died of wounds in Belgium during October 1917, age 28. Alice's maiden name was Braithwaite.
