Son of Fred and Mary Annie WHITTERTON
EDMUND REGINALD WHITTERON who was killed in action at Anzac on 8th August 1915 was the son of Mr. T. Whitteron of Geelong. He was born in 1894 and was at the Preparatory School in 1906 and left to go to the Geelong Grammar School, where he became one of the leading athletes, being in the cricket and football teams and the crew. He went to the Melbourne University in 1914 and enlisted in September of that year.
He joined the 14th Battalion, and was in the Landing on Gallipoli
when he was wounded and was laid up for six weeks. On returning to duty, having refused an opportunity to return to Australia on furlough, as he felt men were so urgently needed at the front, he was promoted to Corporal, and was killed in the fighting round Lone Pine on 8th August 1915.
