Biography

"Our Boys at the Front.

Mrs Ralph Hill was notified on Thursday last that her brother, Private Harold Ockenden, had been killed in action in France. Private Ockenden was the fifth son of the the late Mr and Mrs R. Ockenden of Kooringa, and enlisted 18 months ago. Prior to enlisting he was engaged in farming pursuits with his brother, Charles, at Streaky Bay. The deceased soldier was in his 26th year. Brother of Stanley Leslie Ockenden who returned to Australia on 17 July 1919 having served with the 2nd Tunnelling Company; Arthur Gordon Ockenden who returned to Australia on 11 October 1918 having served with the 7th Field Ambulance; Charles Levi Ockenden who returned to Australia on 8 September 1919 having served with the Australian flying Corps;  Richard Allan Ockenden who returned to Australia on 16 October 1915 having served with the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; Oliver Henry (Twist) Ockenden who returned to Australia on 110 May 1918 having served with the 50th Battalion
