66 years ago today, on the 10th January 1956, Sergeant Leslie William Gordon Coleman (M.M.), 1st Australian Field Ambulance (orthopaedic staff, Reg No-38), male nurse from Hospital for Insane, Watt Street, Newcastle, New South Wales and "Bruwalla", 12 King Street, Adamstown, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 66. GENERAL-34. 54.

Born at Katoomba, New South Wales on the 25th November 1889 (not confirmed) to Thomas and Emma Coleman; husband of Ethel May Coleman nee? (married, died?) of Seaham Street, Estelville, West Wallsend, New South Wales and "Maroubra", Denman, N.S.W. and "Allawa", Wybong Road, Muswellbrook, N.S.W., Les enlisted August 1914 with the 4th Battalion at Randwick, N.S.W.

Admitted to hospital 29.5.1915 (concussion), 19.8.1915 (abscess, slight).

Les returned home December 1918, service records states being gassed, and was discharged on the 20th February 1919.

Awarded Military Medal 8th November 1917.

Mr. Coleman’s name has been inscribed on the West Wallsend Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour (photo, unveiled on the 8th July 1917, 60 names originally inscribed, 68 names now inscribed, 13 Fallen), West Wallsend and District Soldier's Memorial, Homeville Community Honour Roll and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at Leslie’s officially commemorated gravesite in remembrance of his bravery, service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
