Mr. H. Hurst, of Auburn-road, Auburn, received word early in the week that his late partner, Private William Godfrey Bartlett, had been killed in action in France. Deceased was a native of Gloucestershire, England, where his parents reside, and was 27 years of age. He enlisted at Auburn, where he was well known, and much respected, and left for the front on 2nd November last, with the 11th Reinforcements of the 3rd Battalion. In Egypt, he was in the school of instruction, machine-gun section, 3rd division but on the troops leaving for France he was transferred to the infantry. He belonged to thoe Auburn rifle club, and was a member of Earl Carnarvon Masonic Lodge. The last communication that Mr Hurst received from him was a field card dated 12th June. He was then quite well. He was killed on 21st July.
