Arrived in Australia aged 25 years. Son of William Hogg and Anne Hogg of Davidsons Mains, Edinburgh, Scotland
Next of kin given as his brother Charles Hogg of 'Mary Cottage', Davidsons Mains, Edinburgh but was serving with the Royal Engineers
James had previously served with the 4th Royal Scots Battalin.
At the time of enlistment he was residing at Nicholson Street, South Yarra, Victoria. He was a Bandsman with the State Railway Band
