Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

The son of Henry and Harriet Hampton of Addlestone, Surrey, England.

His brother, 4505 Pte. Walter Charles Hampton also served in the 46th Battalion and returned to Australia in early 1919. They were both living at Newport, Victoria, having come to Australia in 1914.

Arthur served at Gallipoli with the 24th Battalion, survived Fromelles with the 57th Battalion, fought at Bullecourt and Belgium in 1917 with the 46th Battalion, and died during the fighting at Dernancourt when the 46th Battalion was in a rear position but the Germans heavily shelled the back areas.
