Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private Lloyd Leslie Lott (Service No:3058) enlisted in the AIF on 12 July 1915, and was attached to 14th Infantry Battalion on 16 October 1915 when he embarked with his Unit from Melbourne for Egypt on board HMAT A17 Port Linclon. Private Lott - mustered as Gunner, appointed Shoeing Smith -  served in Moascar, Tel el Kebir and Ismaila and was transferred to 5th Field Artillery Brigade on 17 March 1916. Private Lott embarked from Alexandria for Marseilles on 2 June 1916 for service on the Western Front. Embarking from London for Melbourne on 8 May 1919 on board HT Devanha, Private Lott was attached to 5th Field Artillery Brigade at Discharge on 15 August 1919.

Lloyd was born in Branxholme, Victoria in 1893, youngest of eight children of Francis David Lott (b1850 in Surrey, England) and Elizabeth Ward (b1850 in Cornwall, Engalnd). Francis immigrated with his parents in 1853, arriving in Melbourne on board the Eliza, and Elizabeth immigrated in 1863 with her parents and siblings, arriving in Melbourne on board the Merrie Monarch. Francis worked as a Boot Repairer and in 1872 he and Elizabeth married in Melbourne, and lived in Portland before moving to Branxholme in the mid 1870s. Francis was contracted to provide Prisoners' Rations in 1877, and by 1885 the family had settled in Melbourne, where Francis worked as a Bootmaker and Billiard Room Licensee.

Lloyd was working in Melbourne as a Farrier when he enlisted in the AIF in 1915. Following his Discharge, he returned to Melbourne where, in 1920, he married Elizabeth Fagan (b1892 at Dry Diggings via Daylesford, Victoria). Lloyd and Elizabeth settled in Melbourne - LLoyd worked as Farrier and Bootmaker (Trove: 1923) until his death in 1923 (Lloyd's death was accepted as due to War Service - NAA 1924). Elizabeth died in 1963.
