John Parnell DARMODY was born in Normanton, Queensland on 26th April, 1891
His parents were John DARMODY and Catherine (Kate) LONG
He enlisted in Brisbane on 20th May, 1915 & embarked with the 26th Infantry Battalion, 2nd reinforcements on the ship HMAT Shropshire from Brisbane on the 17th August, 1915
He was wounded in France on 5th August, 1916 with shrapnel wounds to his leg & shoulder and admitted to hospital
John died of these wounds on 24th August, 1916 at the General Hospital in Birmingham, England - he was subsequently buried at the Powerstown (St Johns) Roman Catholic Cemetery in Ireland

John Parnell Darmody was born at Normanton, Queensland in 1891.
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 23rd May, 1915 as a 24 year old Railway Employee from Walloon, near Ipswich, Queensland.
Private Darmody arrived in France on 21st March, 1916 & was wounded in action in France on 5th August, 1916 with gunshot wounds to legs & shoulder (severe).
He was invalided to England & admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Dudley Road, Birmingham, England on 10th August, 1916. He was reported as dangerously ill.
Private John Parnell Darmody died on 24th August, 1916.
His body was removed to Ireland by relatives & buried in St John’s Catholic Churchyard, Powerstown, County Tipperary, now County Waterford, Republic of Ireland.
