Son of William Thomas Vaughton and Evaline Sarah Ruth Vaughton nee Harrip of Brighton, SA.

Thomas had been employed with the Eouth Australian Railways as a locomotive fireman from 1912 until he enlisted in 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on 1 July 1919 aboard HT Karmala disembarking on 14 August 1919

On 24 November 1920 Thomas married Una Sarah Franklin in the Methodist Church, Sturt, SA.
