Bernard Fritz Tempest McPHIE was born in 1887 in West Maitland, NSW
His parents were John McPHIE and Ada Ellen WYNN who married in 1884 - Bernard was their only son and he had three sisters, Ella, Ivy & Clara
His father John died in 1894 and his mother Ada remarried in 1897 to a William MILLS in East Maitland
He enlisted at Rosehill Camp in Sydney on 28th September, 1914 and embarked with the 13th Infantry Battalion, A Company on the HMAT Ulysses from Melbourne on 22nd December, 1914
Bernard was Killed in Action on 10th August, 1915 and originally buried in the Norfolk Cemetery - later his grave could not be located so now his name is memorialised in the Special Memorial A 43 of the 7th Field Ambulance Cemetery in Gallipoli for soldiers whose graves could not be found
