Add my storyBiography
At the age of 17 years and 4 months and stating he was a year older, Norman enlisted in the army. And three months shy of turning 18 his unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A64 Demosthenes on 29 December 1915.
Less than a month after his 19th birthday, Norman was captured at the Great War battle in Reincourt, France, April 1917. He was interned in Dulmen and later transferred to Munster. He was repatriated to London in December 1918 after 20 months as a prisoner of war - he was 20 years of age.
The war had a great impact on Norman and resulted in him becoming estranged from his family.
