Daughter of Julian ALLAN and Mary Maria nee SAWYER

Did not marry
After the war she continued nursing and was at the Rosemount Military Hospital for some time. She became acting Matron of the Cairns district hospital. She was appointed Matron at the Emu Park Convalescent Home and the Rockhampton Benevolent Home.

Obituary Matron Ruth Allan

The death occurred in Rockhampton on Thursday of Matron Ruth Allan, who was well known in Cairns and district. At one time she was acting matron at the Cairns District Hospital, and while in Cairns she made a wide circle of friends. Deceased is survived by three sisters, Mrs. B Funnell (Cairns), Mrs. Schwartz (Eumundi) and Miss W. Allan (Brisbane). The late Matron Allan served for four years in war service during the 1914-1918 war in Egypt, Palestine, England And France.

MATRON R. ALLAN DEAD

Matron Ruth Allan, whose death has occurred at Rockhampton, was well known in Brisbane, Cooktown, and Rockhampton. Daughterof the late Mr. J. Allan, formerly postmaster at Cooktown, she saw service as an Army sister during 1914-18 in Egypt, England, and France. For some time after the war she was at Rosemount military hospital. Later she was appointed matron at the Emu Park convalescent home and the Rockhampton benevolent home. Miss Allan was vice-president of the Emu Park branch of the C.W.A., and was connected with many war activities at Rockhampton.

Death of Matron Allan

The death occurred in Rockhampton yesterday of Matron Ruth Allan, a highly respected member of the nursing profession, who gave splendid service as matron of the Emu Park Convalescent Home for 12 years until the institution was closed down about two years ago. For the last 18 months Matron Allan had been in charge of the Benevolent Home, where her kindly disposition and professional skill were highly appreciated by the inmates.

The late Matron Allan was born in Cooktown. She trained at the Cairns District Hospital and Melbourne Women's Hospital and was a returned sister, having served in the last war from 1915-19.

Her remains were conveyed to Brisbane Yesterday for burial In the South Brisbane cemetery tomorrow.
