Wilfred Mills was born in McLaen Vale and later lived in Willunga with his family. Aged nearly 19 years, he embarked from Sydney with the 2nd Reinforcements 'S' UK and was allotted to 43rd Battalion, arriving in France on 29 January 1919 after cessation of hostilities. Wilfred returned home on 30 Aug 1919. Two Older brothers Arthur Bruce (KIA) and Stanley Robert also served.

In 1921, he married Lilla Sedunary who died at Murray Bridge on 18 November 1923, aged 29 years. Wilfred later lived at Alberton and died on 12 June 1959 aged 60 years.
