John James Mason, also known as James Mason was 18 years old when he enlisted and the son of James and Annie Mason of 18 Buckingham Street, Surry Hills, New South Wales. His younger brother Private William Mason 19th Battalion also died of wounds on the 26 July 1916. On the 5 August 1916, James was initially reported missing but later on he was found to be killed in action, probably by shell fire at Pozieres, France. He was 20 years and 8 months.
